Plum Regal topped the hybrids and had high marks even compared to some excellent heirlooms. Its deep red sauce was smooth, meaty, with paste-y rich full flavor and a nice acid balance. No bitter or metallic hints, and also did not err into saccharine-sweet tones. Adding to the overall package, Regal is late blight resistant, and moderately resistant to early blight. Even on a determinate plant, the ability to withstand disease pressure really shows up in a high yield. This variety has been making a name for itself among home canners and sauce-makers: you know you will get enough tomatoes and the end results will be delicious.  Seed may have an organically certifiable coating
